This module explores the relationships between race, ethnicity and the criminal justice system. The module will examine how race and ethnicity impact the functioning of key criminal justice institutions including police, prosecution, defence, judges and juries, and explores mechanisms for holding these institutions accountable for racial and ethnic disparities, inequality and differences in outcomes. This module draws on critical criminological theories, critical race theory, and empirical evidence from England and Wales, the United States of America and other jurisdictions.
